Children's Bereavement

Grief Support | Children’s Bereavement Programs:

Hospice of San Joaquin offers several children's bereavement programs. These programs are specialized to open communication channels between children and professional staff to assist them with their grief.

 

 

 

“Kids Korner” is a special support group for grieving children in grades kindergarden to sixth grade who have lost a loved on in the past 2 years.   Groups meet every other Saturday morning for 4 sessions.   Age appropriate activities focus on teaching children how to express feelings of grief in a safe environment surrounded by their peers.

Camp Caterpillar

“Camp Caterpillar, ” a day camp for grieving children in grades kindergarden through eighth grade, is offered each fall.  Children meet at Hospice of San Joaquin and then are bussed to Micke Grove for the remainder of the day.  Activities such as arts and crafts, music, journaling, and games are designed to help children express  and learn to cope with their feelings of grief.   Camp Caterpillar is led by Hospice of San Joaquin Bereavement staff as well as trained and background checked Hospice Bereavement Volunteers.  Certified Pet therapy dogs are also available throughout the day for campers to enjoy.   A balloon release ceremony for campers and their families is held at the end of the day.
